Abstract:
Coaching has emerged as an effective intervention to promote realizing individual goals. Depending on the goals being set in coaching, we can distinguish between transactional and transformative coaching. While transactional coaching relates to the action, at the core of transformative coaching stands the form. What does this different focus mean for the value and impact of these coaching types?
Despite a growing body of literature in the field of coaching, it seems that there is still considerable uncertainty concerning fundamental differences between the impact and value of transactional versus transformative coaching.
This study investigated the relation between transactional and transformative coaching. Based on the explication of the concepts, I will theoretically analyze that the transformative coaching will contribute to a deeper learning and development process compared to the transactional coaching. We will show that the findings can inspire the personalized learning in lifelong learning.
