Abstract:
Information systems are an important component in today's world. They are omnipresent in both private and business environments, and it is hard to imagine life without them. Providing suitable protection is not a simple matter. The development in the area of information technology is progressing very fast, and systems that are still up to date can quickly become outdated or pose a threat due to new methods of attack or known security gaps. Therefore, it is all the mores essential to employ a well-trained IT department or hire reliable service providers from this field to protect systems.
It is also not enough to provide only the appropriate protection using suitable software, such as virus protection, and hardware, such as a firewall. It is also essential to make people aware and educate those who handle the IT-system-supported work equipment on a daily basis in order to ensure the best possible protection. Blind trust in individual protection mechanisms is just as dangerous as omitting them.
The paper provides an overview of the Erasmus plus training project "Immersive Learning in Information Security" (MISSILE). It describes the needs analyses which were done with a sample of the target group in order to create tailor-made modules which fit to the needs of IT staff working in the public authority. One chapter of the paper describes the modules which are technological, juridical, and economical aspects of Cyber Security. The main focus of the paper is laying on the test case which was done in Austria. Because of the restrictions caused by the COVID pandemy the course was held totally online, and it is interesting to evaluate if the learning output was reached. Keywords:
