Abstract:
This paper discusses several relevant training and educational initiatives promoted by the University for Foreigners of Perugia as part of a broader institutional effort to integrate lifelong learning principles into higher education. The analysis focuses on training pathways designed to enhance transversal competences, such as linguistic, digital, intercultural and civic, through learner-centred and inclusive pedagogical models. Particular attention is given to the intersection between formal and non-formal education, and to how flexible, modular learning environments can support participation, empowerment, and professional upskilling among diverse learner groups. Drawing on a qualitative review of recent initiatives implemented in different contexts, the paper discusses how these experiences can contribute to rethinking the role of universities in fostering social inclusion and sustainable knowledge societies. The study aims to identify transferable elements and theoretical implications that may inform future research and policy design in the field of lifelong learning and adult education.
