Abstract:
Assessment is about measuring learning for accountability and continuous improvement. Since one of the goals is to use assessment results to improve learning for all students in both national and international contexts, including the underrepresented population, it can also be a tool for promoting equity by developing and using culturally responsive assessment. COVID19 has accelerated the adoption of online learning in higher education and now institutions strive to adapt to this disruptive trend and compete for student-centric offerings. How do we value and insert students’ cultural identities and diversity in course design and assessment strategies? How do we prepare students for the kinds of challenges they will confront in life, work, and citizenship in national and global contexts? Most importantly, how do we accomplish the aforementioned with effective online teaching and learning? This interactive session will weave together a presentation, discussion, and role-play to share strategies for implementing online experiential learning models, and equitable and culturally responsive assessment for online learning.
