Abstract:
With the arrival of the 21st century, digital storytelling has developed as a bridge between traditional forms of storytelling and modern forms of communication supported through new technologies. From media repositories such as digital photo archives to dynamically generated stories, digital storytelling is playing an increasingly significant role in research, teaching and learning in educational contexts. This present paper reports on a research study in higher education to examine how digital storytelling supports teachers in their professional development. Through a sample of teachers’ stories, this paper discusses the issues and challenges of using digital storytelling in educational research. A number of challenges that have implications for the participants, the researcher and the research are identified and analysed. In the light of this discussion, suggestions are made for the use of digital storytelling in educational research.
