The authors present the experience of Kazan Federal University, the university with many centuries history. This university is well-known in Europe and all over the world. At present time, globalization, integration and internationalization influence all the fields of life including education, economy, culture, science and tourism.
So educational process of the University involves teaching foreign languages at all departments. The students majoring ‘Tourism’ learn two foreign languages, English and German. It is purposeful while teaching German or English to present special terminology used in the field of tourism taking into account regional peculiarities (religion, culture). One of the important skills demanded by employers in the field of tourism is the ability to speak two foreign languages.
The research presents the analysis of theory and practice of professionally oriented German training for the students majoring ‘Tourism’. Today foreign language teaching stands beyond the frames of the subject and becomes an instrument for formation of a new generation of specialists who are well prepared for self-education, creative work, critical thinking and who can preserve the cultural heritage of the motherland and of the country, the language of which they learn. They also have to be able to compare culture sights in order to estimate how valuable they are for history.
Globalization of the tourism world market and business raise requirements for professional training of the specialists in the field of tourism. The specialists have to master both theoretical knowledge and the speaking skills in order to interact with the representatives of different countries including German speaking countries and to solve the problems in the conditions of interlanguage and intercultural communication.
One of the main aspects of teaching foreign language is the development of the skills of intercultural communication that provide the ability to interpret the information presented in German during the process of professional activity, to support the contact with the representatives of other cultures recognizing their peculiarities. Implementation of such a program is important for universities and departments that educate the staff for tourism.
