Abstract:
In recent time, various nations have introduced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the diverse sectors for the purpose of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery in their territories. The introduction of ICT has increased daily engagement of the people globally. This improvement does not exempt the educational sector across the nations of the world. For instance, in Nigeria since the emergence of e-governance in the educational sector it has sought to transform the traditional ways of rendering educational services in the country. The objective of this paper is to examine the effect of e-Governance on Education Service Delivery in Nigeria, with respect to the universal basic education (UBE) Policy Implementation in Selected Local Government Areas of Lagos State, Nigeria. This paper adopts the mixed research method by Creswell (2009) that is a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. For the quantitative aspect area/cluster and simple random sampling was adopted because of the nature of the target population which range from bureaucrats, parents, teachers and the head in UBE schools. 10 key informants were interviewed while 430 respondents administered with a questionnaire. Both interview and questionnaire were carried out evenly across the three (3) senatorial district of Lagos State. Quantitative data were subjected to regression using regression and Analysis of Variance through SPSS results and interpretation was analyzed accordingly. Similarly, qualitative data undergo categorization according to question and thereafter coded before it was interpreted through the statical package for social sciences (SPSS). Also the characteristics of respondents were presented on frequency tables. The finding of the study shows that e-governance plays a major role for effectiveness and efficiency in education service delivery in Nigeria. Based on the findings the study concludes that government should allocate substantial funds for UBE programme and the state government should ensure that funds allocated for this schools are judiciously utilized for the purpose. It, therefore, recommends the need for the Federal Government to invest more on infrastructures in public schools and also make policies on the adoption and implementation of e-governance in the public schools in Nigeria.
