Abstract:
Anxiety about the future causes pressure, stress and hopelessness in young people. Many factors such as gender, personality, level of stress tolerance, level of hope, school success, and circle of friends affect the level of students' anxiety about the future. Students with high levels of anxiety who realize that they are in the last years of their educational life and have difficulty in coping with stress and hopelessness experience anxiety more. Considering the economic crises, social disasters, employment problems, the pandemic that has affected the whole world and the economic crises experienced in the country in recent years, which directly affect education and employment, the necessity and importance of the study emerges.
During university education, many factors such as the city of study, socio-economic level, relationships in the university environment, and housing problems have an impact on students' anxiety. University years undoubtedly have an important place in the lives of individuals. In addition, the last year of university has a special importance in terms of students entering a new period in their lives after graduation. At the end of this year, their student life will be over and they will become qualified individuals in the society. Job selection, plans for taking a role in real life, friendships, fear of not finding a job and various responsibilities can be listed as some of the factors that create anxiety in the individual. Many negative situations that individuals face in their lives cause them to feel anxious about their lives and have a more negative outlook on life. It is thought that necessary measures can be taken to eliminate these negative situations by investigating the factors that cause anxiety in students studying in the last year of university.
The population of the study is the fourth grade students studying at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa in the 2022-2023 academic year. The sample consists of 1750 students from different faculties who voluntarily participated in this study. In the data collection phase, the Personal Information Form created by the researcher and the 20-question section of the State-Trait Anxiety Scale developed by Spielberger and Gorsuch (1964), which consists of a total of 40 questions measuring trait anxiety, were used. Frequency, percentage, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA tests were used to analyze the data. According to the results of the study, it was determined that there were statistically significant differences between students' trait anxiety levels according to gender, faculty, parental education level, family income perception and place of residence variables. Anxiety levels of female students, students studying in the field of social sciences, students whose parents' education level was university, students whose family income perception was less than income and expenses, and students staying in dormitories were found to be significantly different. Keywords:
