Abstract:
Dating violence, which is one of the interpersonal types of violence, can be observed in the form of any relationship which individuals define or experience in different ways, serious or temporary, short-term or long-term, monogamous, heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual. There are 6 types of dating violance, namely physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, social violence, digital violence and persistent stalking, and dating violence can take many different forms as applied in these ways or used as a threat. Dating violance is caused by many different characteristics and situations such as an individual's personal problems, gender roles that they value, family structure, success, socio-cultural norms, social acceptance, popularity and economic status. Dating violance can lead to many psychological and physical problems that can occur in the short or long term. Studies show that dating violance can cause severe consequences such as decreased self-confidence, outbursts of anger, depression, suicide attempts, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, injuries and death.

According to literature results, individuals who are in a transition period to adolescence and post-adolescence to adulthood are more likely to experience dating violance. Since the most important example of dating violance is physical violence, it is believed that individuals who practice or are exposed to social, psychological, sexual and digital dating violance may not be aware of the violence they suffer. At the same time, jealousy and restrictions due to gender roles can be misinterpreted as displays of love, which can lead to the absence of negative attitudes towards dating violance and the normalization of violence.

It is believed that in order to prevent dating violance, individuals can be made aware through informative seminars on dating violance, especially in high schools and universities, and by making courses such as gender equality compulsory. At the same time, it is believed that it will be useful to create informative content on these issues and organize social media campaigns in social media channels where young people are active. It is also critical to expand psychological counseling services that encourage individuals exposed to dating violance to increase self-confidence and self-worth in education institutions.

In the study which was carried out with the students of Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Hasan Ali Yücel Faculty of Education, students from Social Studies Teaching, Guidance and Psychological Counseling, English Language Teaching and Special Education Teacher Education were selected as participants. The study aims to determine the effect of preventive education programs on the awareness of university students regarding dating violance. After the training program which included topics to raise awareness of dating violance for 30 students who voluntarily participated in the study, a significant difference was determined between the pre-test and post-test scores and it was observed that the score obtained after the training was significantly higher.
