Abstract:
One of the key competences for Lifelong Learning provided by the Council Recommendation and included in the common European reference framework is the competence of cultural awareness and expression. This competence requires an understanding of one's own identity and cultural context and includes skills related to understanding the different ways of communicating and enhancing arts and other cultural products. It can be exercised both through conscious involvement in the enjoyment of cultural exhibitions and through engagement in activities and processes with a positive and creative attitude.

This paper presents the design of a research project aimed at the creation of a museater, an institution halfway between a museum and a theatre in which digital technologies are used to tell a story of cultural relevance. The story to be told is that of an ancient textile industry in Val Trebbia (Genova, Italy) and Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are the technologies applied.

This is a co-creation project in which students from first grade school are involved in the process of making AR and VR cultural contents exhibited in the museater.

This project presents an intervention model to verify how a link between Research and Education can contribute to the development of competences in digital content creation and competence in cultural awareness and expression as a key competence.
