Abstract:
This poster presentation will illustrate how to use a course assessment matrix that evaluates courses and teaching materials in order to better understand and improve the teaching-learning process. The presenters will discuss how to align six components in the matrix. The process begins with course objectives which need to be aligned to student learning outcomes. Additionally, the presenters will discuss how to match general education core competencies to the learning objectives and outcomes.

An important component to the assessment process is the design of suitable course assignments. These assignments are essential in that they measure students' performance in relation to course objectives and the expected student outcomes. The presenters will also explain the last two components, an analysis of student performance and recommendations for course improvement. Lastly, an overview of the process the presenters underwent will be provided as well as an account of what they learned about how the course assessment matrix can inform and strenghten their teaching.
