Abstract:
A visualization of complex variable concepts for engineering students is presented in this work. Our study is based on the usage of graphic interactive units, which are developed in Mathematica. The main goal is to enhance the competencies of students that are related with the use of concepts and complex analysis tools, which are required for engineering applications. The learning material was uploaded into the web, and it provides an interactive environment, which can be accessed at any time and with any mobile dispositive. The web site that has been developed contains electronic support material, explanatory videos, activities where the usage of technology is required, sessions on computational visualization of concepts and an exercise trainer for complex variable problems. The visualization sessions were developed by using the Mathematica and Desmos packages. Complex variable function plotting, Cauchy-Riemann equations, residues computation among others, are the type of subjects contained into the visualization sessions. In this work, several elements that were used to develop the learning material are shown. The results obtained from 62 students at Tecnológico de Monterrey are evaluated.
