Abstract:
Industry 4.0 is pushing industrial processes to become more efficient, transparent, resilient, and traceable. For higher education institutions is paramount to develop business intelligence and digital competencies in their students. Our work presents a digital twin architecture for the formation of such competencies. It includes database design, data collection, Internet of Things, Big Data, cloud computing, data wrangling, ethics in data management, business intelligence, digital twinning, storytelling, and decision making. We present a case for students to implement digital tools, and describe how business intelligence and digital competencies are being developed during the solution of the problem presented. We also suggest which cloud tools may be used to deploy the solution and provide a better understanding for students on how Industry 4.0 works from operation to decision-making.

This work presents the suggested architecture and selected practical examples on how can it be implemented in diverse educational settings. Additionally, it features a summary of digital competencies that are reinforced with this experience.
