Abstract:
At Tec de Monterrey, we are moving our educational system from objective-based into competence-based. As a result, we are designing challenge-based learning experiences to develop specific competencies into our students. Selected professors are willing to run a set of experiments in the classroom to understand the practical implications of those changes. This work describes a pilot experiment in a course named “Design and Development of Logistics Systems”, were students are asked to solve a set of challenges using GIS technology and applying their entrepreneurial skills to reinforce a selected set of competencies declared at the beginning of the course. The experience of implementing the challenges in the course is described, the design of the competence portfolio is presented, and the results obtained during the experiment are discussed. A self-assessment on how to accomplish learning objectives while experimenting with competencies development is included in the final part of this work.
