Abstract:
In 2019 the University of Granada launched its bilingual program aiming to offer students the possibility to complete a whole Biology degree in English. In the academic year 2022/23 the subject Zoology will be added to the bilingual program of the Biology degree. This program includes now 6 subjects (12.8 % of the total subjects offered) and it is expected to increase every academic year. Offering a bilingual higher education will boost not only the number of potential students (national and international) attracted to our University but also new academic staff from abroad that felt the Spanish language a barrier to develop their teaching duties in this institution.
The subject of Zoology consists in 12 ECTS, 4.6 ECTS of them correspond to laboratory and field practicals (14 sessions and 3 days respectively). In order to adapt these practical sessions to the English language, most of the materials needed translation. To do so, we obtained a teaching innovation project (Plan FIDO UGR) that covered the translation cost of the guide notes of laboratory sessions, identification keys, panels as well as the virtual tools such as the Zoology virtual museum and the implemented self-evaluation tool. In this presentation we show the new materials which are not a mere translation but also an improvement of the previous ones: high definition images, bigger font to facilitate its reading for people with visual difficulties and new self-learning tools that will help in case of virtual teaching situations as well as will serve as a measure of diversity outreach. Keywords:
