Abstract:
The integration in the European Higher Education Area makes us take in account that several competences must be worked with students in order to increase their global education. Our experience is about the emotional competences. It isn’t our intention to make a composition about the definition of that kind of competences. Instead of it, we try to focus in our experience in the Law Degree in Spain: working with emotional competences.
In the recent movement to a new European model of High Education, we must emphasize the roll of the student in its own education. The European documents emphasize a shift from ‘knowledge’ to ‘competence’ and from teaching to learning, placing the learner at the centre. He must be involved in the training process, working close to the teachers the competences and skills selected. Learning and teaching methods must be challenged and face the new challenges of the Higher Education.
Spanish White Book in Law Degree identifies the basic skills and competences for a student in law. It tries to integrate the traditional skills and the new requirements of the labour market to get the objective proposed in the Bologna process, maintaining them through life. The special composition of law studies permit us to focus in several competences with a particular interest.
First of all, our work requires identifying the emotional competences that are related to law degree and adjusted to the labour market requirements, in order to be worked by all the subjects – cross competences – and in a special order of appearance. Them we must select the special methodology to work with.
Professors involved in this project of training in competences are memberships of different areas of knowledge, that multidisciplinary framework offers us a new perspective of the educational process. The conclusions of our experience will be developed in our paper focusing in the description of the methodology and the training process including the coordination of the teaching team.
