Abstract:
A group of teachers of Materials Engineering degree belongs to the organizing committee of next National Conference on Composite Materials Spain that will be held in Rey Juan Carlos University (Madrid, Spain) in 2015. The objective of this new ECTS experience is to involve twenty students of the fourth-year in the organization and development of the conference. This activity will be worth 2 ECTS in the Rey Juan Carlos University.
The students know the planning of a project such as the organization of a Conference. They coursed the subject of Engineering Projects in which they had to make this planning using the Microsoft Project software program. The students know there is a stage in the planning that consists of the revision of the abstracts sent by the participants of the conference. The students will have to review some abstracts which will have been revised previously by the teachers who will have made modifications to insert errors that the students should detect. Some modifications will be related to the order of magnitude and units of the physical properties of the materials, scale and axis of the graphs, conditions of manufacturing processes, etc.
The students have coursed two subjects of the degree that are related to composite materials discipline:
i) Composite Materials (third year) and Manufacturing of Composite Materials (fourth year).
The review activity will give to the students the opportunity of develop the acquired abilities in these subjects: the general competences of critical reasoning, ability to apply the knowledge to the practice, etc., and the specific ones related to composite materials.
Besides, it will be a good experience for the students to attend this conference. The conferences will be related to the last advances in composite materials and the more relevant companies of this sector will be present in two of the plenary sessions and in stands. Keywords:
ECTS, ability.
