Abstract:
Why it’s important to use sustainable natural lighting in interior? One of the current challenges for an interior designer is how to develop sustainable interior environment to suit the decreasing level of nonrenewable energy, by producing a minimum level of pollution and a minimum cost of energy, while increasing the comfort, health and safety of the users within these interior sustainable environment.

Sustainable design is not a style, but an approach in which various inputs and outputs of the building are considered for the long-term, such as involving health and well-being of people and their environment-lighting. Sustainable design concern for the impact of designed environment on the sustainability of the resources consume (renew ability). Many and differs technologies are develop, recently, giving many alternatives to the interior designers to solve any given situation through his interior design projects.

Depend on the interior designer knowledge in this field, applies these concept to his project. In fact, he is greatly involved in the environmental behavior. Using natural light, as sustainable resource, with the right amount in the right place, side by side with the changes in user's behaviors, reach efficacies energy consumption. Energy management are mainly used for electrical lighting, but for natural lighting we need full spectrum of alternatives to give the interior designer the opportunities to select the best for the project design situation, especially in our middle-east countries, where natural lighting as sustainable resources are available in large amount all over the high percentage of the year.

To accomplish this, the paper will describes and assemble all those technologies as topics to be study as important part from the “Lighting Course for Interior Study – AUST case study”. These several technologies available to reach an interior that have a complete harmony and balance with nature, self-sufficient in energy, a total lighting support system for people depending on function of this interior, by describing an application of the system. Sustainable natural lighting technologies include the uses of solar energy, transforming the daylight to artificial energy, through specific types of glazing materials, or by integrating a mirror system to the interior design as reflectors to best benefits from the sunlight, especially in Arab countries almost all year times. These technologies also, involve the different types of artificial light control, reducing the uses of artificial lighting. The several solutions and implementation can benefit interior designers and authorities to use effectively the sustainable natural lighting according to the interior function type, as commercial, residential, hospitality, administrative,…etc. The adaptations of these systems together will be the important point to reach, to face the non-renewable energy decreases, and to enhance the interior design functionality.
