Abstract:
The High Education Minister and Universities endeavor to develop the education. This attempt usually goes through the triple edge of education; the instructors, the curriculum, and the educational spaces. This paper focuses on one important educational tool, using the latest technologies, to facilitate the information comprehension. Teaching theories doesn’t reach the courses objectives unless application and demonstration, within a practical labs, especially in practical program. Therefore, practical lab is considered as major element linking the education’ triple edges – the paper topic.
One of the main courses in the Interior Design Program, as a technical and associate degree level, is the Lighting and Acoustics. For numerous years, it was taught as one course. Just recently it has been split to two courses, as the specializations grow and the needs of detailed information are a must in such fields. Yes they are connected as professional science affecting deeply in the interior design projects, but more professional search and invents more we need time – as instructors – to explain from basics to last trends in those subjects.
Yet this course was and will be a hard course to teach unless a “real - live” solutions helping explaining its topics. A student needs a clear demonstration about each, and especially the acoustic part, since the lighting is more connected to any students’ surrounding environment (in class, at home, and wherever they go). This is why a Lighting and Acoustic Lab is a very important educational tool within any university spaces. It should include the basics and the specific elements clarifying the course topics.
The paper goal is to design an ideal program for the Lighting and Acoustics Lab. This program design will includes all the elements to be applied in such lab to enable, both instructors and students, clarifying and understanding those topics with trouble-free ways. The paper methodology will follow the prospectus of this course through my experience and my degree specialization. The lab should demonstrate all basics in lighting; the different types of lamps as properties, sustainability and their influences on the interior, the category of distributions, the colors of light and their influences over the materials appearance, the luminaires systems and their distributions, and the lighting control abilities. It should as well reveal the different acoustics phenomena; the difference between the materials properties and how they affect the sound clarity, the electronics systems in acoustics, and affection of the interior shape on the sound behaviors. Those topics should be inserted in an interior space program compact in one space so flexibility could take place in any interior to fit any university program spaces.
