Abstract:
University degrees in Spain are classified into five fields of knowledge: Social and Legal Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Sciences, Health Sciences, and Engineering and Architecture. In the field of Engineering and Architecture, the University of Almeria has six degrees: Degree in Agricultural Engineering, Degree in Electrical Engineering, Degree in Industrial Electronic Engineering, Degree in Computer Engineering, Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and Degree in Industrial Chemical Engineering. All of them are regulated professions, and have their professional attributions. In this research, the teaching guides of all the subjects of the six degrees described above were examined in relation to the 10 generic skills of the University of Almeria. These generic skills are: UAL1 to UAL10. UAL1- Basic knowledge of profession, UAL2- Using Information and Communication Techniques (ICTs), UAL3- Capacity to solve problems successfully, UAL4- Writing and oral expressing with clarity in Spanish language, UAL5- Development of a sense of criticism and self-criticism, UAL6- Ability to work in a group, UAL7- Learning a foreigner language, UAL8- Commitment to Ethical Business, UAL9- Capacity to design, manage and undertake a task by oneself, and UAL10- Social Responsibility of Business. This research allows us to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each of the engineering degrees. The final results allow establishing a benchmarking analysis between the different engineering degrees of the University of Almeria, and to establish some recommendations for their possible improvement in the future verifications of the curricula.
