Abstract:
Lebanese Private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are working hard to achieve competitive advantages over one another. Lebanese private HEIs have been facing multiple challenges and were subject to considerable reforms in response to the current economic crises. Employee performance is essential to the success or failure of the organization and it is affected by a number of factors. Although several studies have examined factors affecting employee performance, little is known in the context of HE in Lebanon. What possible factors could affect the performance of faculty members in private universities in Lebanon during economic crisis?
This study shed the light on the impact of specific factors such as compensation, job satisfaction, motivation, commitment, and the economic situation on performance of faculty members in the Lebanese private HEIs. A quantitative cross-sectional study was implemented for the purpose of this study and data has been collected, using a questionnaire, from 289 faculty members of several private institutions in Higher Education during the period of September-November 2022. The findings show that motivating faculty at Lebanese private universities has the most impact on their performance followed by giving them a sense of commitment to the organization. Additionally, Extrinsic compensation is of high value for faculty members and could affect their performance. While intrinsic compensation didn’t have any significant impact on their performance. The economic situation can negatively impact faculty performance and the response time from the universities to support their faculty members during hard times is of major importance as it can make faculty demotivated and therefore decrease their performance. Keywords:
