Abstract:
Today, advances in technology, the demands of the XXI Century and the characteristics of students are causing educational institutions are changing activities, methods and actions inside and outside the classroom. In fact, teachers from various universities in Mexico are being trained in the use of computational tools, the development of skills and pedagogy. Therefore, educators have the opportunity to use Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to improve assimilation and reuse of knowledge. In particular, this research proposes the design and implementation of Web System for Mathematics (WSM), which uses pedagogical agent (2D avatar) as a means to motivate and guide the educational process related to the applications of sequences and series. The objective of this investigation is to understand the impact of using the WSM during the course of “Intermediate mathematics for business” during the 2015-2 school year at a university located in Mexico City. Also, the architecture of this system is composed of modules of audiovisual content (stores information about the depreciation by the method of sum of digits), evaluation (contains the questionnaire) and control (coordinates activities between the web interface and the student). The quantitative approach through the Analysis of Variance method (ANOVA) with significance level of 0.05 and 0.01 allows to know the effect of using the WSM through the control group (22 students of course 2014-2) and the experimental group (20 students of course 2015-2). Note that this educational web system is built considering aspects of usability related to the usefulness, efficiency and user satisfaction. Measuring instruments are the Questionnaire 1 on depreciation and Questionnaire 2 related to usability. Finally, this study proposes WSM architecture as an alternative to facilitate the teaching and learning of mathematics. Keywords:
