Abstract:
This article deals with the reading comprehension of the students with nonlinguistic major. In the study, the effect of an attempt, more precisely, students-generated questions were investigated. The results revealed that reading is very important; it can make students to acquire new vocabulary, which contribute to the reading comprehension. Reading opens access to leading current sources of information for specialists, and thus, it is becoming one of the main means of satisfying his cognitive needs and implementation of information activities. An important objective in teaching a foreign language in high school is to prepare the student for the acquisition of reading by operational obtaining and structuring of professionally significant information. The experimental part of the work was held in the Kazan Federal University (Russia), which consisted of a questionnaire that was filled in anonymously by various groups of students of the Institute of Computational Mathematics and Informational Technology (1 course). The answers helped to determine the factors affecting the reading comprehension of students. It was proved that text comprehension depends on the language and individual psychological characteristics of the reader. Due to the findings of the present study, the researchers have some recommendations for future students. The first of them is to replace old software that is used with a new version of improving language skills. Second, ESL students should use different websites to master their language. The Third, to attract more students, they must attend English classes. The Fourth, new technologies should be used more frequently. Fifth, students need interesting, not boring texts. The teacher must prepare useful texts for reading beforehand. The process of understanding of the text largely depends on the psychological activity of the reader. Required skills when reading in a foreign language include the ability to use a dictionary, grammar references. The results of this research work will be useful for teachers to help their students to become confident readers.
