Abstract:
This article examines a joint initiative of six higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Baltic countries within the framework of the Nordplus higher education program aimed at the innovative use of mathematics for sustainable development. The project was initiated in 2020 with the aim of integrating mathematics into the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their socio-economic implications. The universities included in the consortium have experience in introducing ICT and innovative practices in mathematics education and jointly conducted an intensive course in the form of a summer school in 2022.

The article focuses on the importance of extracurricular activities in the development of math competence, as well as highlights the main achievements and impressions of students during summer school. The long-term impact of the project on students' skills and awareness of sustainability issues is discussed. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of such cooperation in advancing sustainable development efforts in the Baltics, strengthening ties between universities, and strengthening the role of higher education institutions in promoting sustainable development and the SDGs.
