Abstract:
In this paper we present the results of an innovation project based on designing R-scripts to generate random datasets in statistical practical exercises. The traditional educational system in Statistics consists of solving exercises which involve fixed datasets to be analyzed. This fact implies the use of the same examples for different courses by the teaching staff. Because of this, capabilities and skills that our students should acquire during the course, such as critical capacity and capacity for analysis and synthesis, are reduced. We have developed this software which can offer different applied exercises for each student in a class by randomizing datasets included in the proposed problems. Additionally, the software can provide automatically the list of the wording of the exercises in a LaTeX file, mark the students answers and give the solutions for checking the results by themselves. Finally, in an experience carried out this year, we can conclude that this new tool was very well accepted; in particular, students and teachers were gratefully surprised with the usefulness of the developed project.
