Abstract:
This paper describes a study conducted with 40 students, from two 5th grade classes in a public school in northern Portugal, in the 2021/2022 school year. The average age of the students is ten years old. The students had no experience with the use of cell phone applications for school purposes. The intervention took place during one month in the teaching of the chapter "non-negative rational numbers".

The main purpose of the study was to determine the effects of the Quizizz application on students' attitude and in performance in the subject of mathematics. This tool allows students to answer teacher-created online questionnaires via mobile devices and have immediate feedback on their results, allowing the self-assessment of learning.

It was used a quasi-experimental method, with an experimental group that used the Quizizz app and a control group that did not. Both groups performed a pre-test to assess students’ knowledge before the intervention and a post-test after the intervention. The difference in the mean achievement scores of the students in the two groups shows that the students in the experimental group performed better.

To obtain information about the students' opinions regarding the use of this tool, a questionnaire was conducted to which the students answered. It was concluded that the use of the Quizizz math application allowed improving the students' attitude towards the subject taught.
