Abstract:
Domestic violence and aggression are undoubtedly a widespread problem in most countries, cultures or societies, a problem that negatively impacts not only the individuals involved, but also the community to which they belong. Romania is no exception, with national statistics showing a significant increase in domestic violence. One of the most common forms of domestic violence is directed against women in particular, and is perpetrated by a husband or intimate male partner, compared, or rather in contrast, to men, who are generally more likely to be attacked by a stranger or acquaintance than by someone in the family circle. The incrimination of this form of violence has motivated not only social and legal professionals but also the scientific community to identify the most effective strategies to prevent and reduce violence against women, domestic violence intervention programs being one of them. The objective of the present work was to evaluate active learning techniques designed to promote changes in family offenders' acceptance of responsibility for the aggressive act, respect for the victim and preconceived ideas about women, and social attitudes towards violence. The sample consisted of 21 men aged between 20 and 45, convicted of various domestic violence offences under the Romanian Criminal Code, serving custodial sentences in a prison in the South-Muntenia Region of Romania. This study takes both a qualitative and quantitative approach.
The assessment of change was analysed using psychometric instruments with a Likert-type response scale, as well as by collecting the perceptions of participants. The questionnaires were completed at the beginning and end of the intervention. Keywords:
