Abstract:
Within the framework of this paper, the value of hypervideos in presenting historical artifacts is assessed. The objectives and procedure arise from the following questions:
- What significance do hypervideos have for museum pedagogy and the communication and presentation of historical artifacts?
- What are the pros and cons of hypervideos for knowledge transfer in museums?
- How can information processing in museums change through the use of hypervideos?

The theoretical part includes fundamental principles of museum education, a description of the development from traditional to digital museums, as well as new technologies in presentation of information in museums. Furthermore, basic components (hypertext, multimedia, hypermedia) of hypervideos are presented and considered regarding their potential in transferring information. The practical part consists of the conception and development of hypervideos. Initially, the requirement criteria and the guidelines for design are determined, with which the realization of the hypervideo can be planned using a storyboard. The main part of the paper comprises the practical development of the individual components of the hypervideo and the composition of these using SIVA Suite. The subsequent evaluation of the hypervideo with semi-standardized expert interviews shows that this new method in processing information is highly applicable in communication and presentation of historical artifacts. However, at the same time it is important to consider that the requirements and contents need to be precisely coordinated in order to be able to choose the best media format.
