Abstract:
Much literature concerning management in higher education globally describes shared governance, relationships between faculty administration, the best preparation for an administrator in higher education - whether the best should have a faculty background or a more business, corporate related background, and more. But little has been written about the obvious connectedness between elements of entrepreneur-managers, and the needs of higher education today. Those institutions that are doing well in the present climate are led or influenced by entrepreneurial types of managers. This paper intends to consider first, an array of management styles in higher education, and second, will make a case for an entrepreneurial leadership style being the best managerial style for higher education institutions today. The paper will include a look at the present context and needs of higher education and why an entrepreneurial style is the best style for success in today's climate.
