FIRST EXPERIENCE FOR THE EDUCATIONAL TRAINING OF NEW LECTURERS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GRANADA

Abstract:
The initial training of university lecturers is a right of every new lecturer without previous teaching experience. The understanding of the educational work at the higher education will allow to starting lecturers to undertake, with a first base of knowledge, the required functions, such as material programming, development of the best educational methodology for the European Higher Education Area, evaluation of the students learning or improving the personalized attention in tutorship. The Principalship of Quality Assurance of the University of Granada organized during the academical course 2008-2009 a pioneer program of initiation to the university teaching for its young lecturers (contracted teachers with less than three years of educational experience or researcher with academical functions). The course was developed in two different stages, the first one “Initiation to the University Teaching” with 120 hours (60 hours dedicated to theoretic fundaments and another 60 hours dedicated to supervised teaching practice) and a second stage “Bases for the development of educational projects” with a duration of 80 hours. In the same way, the first stage was divided in four different modules: Planning, teaching methodology, evaluation and university tutorship. Both stages were evaluated by the attendants by opinion inquires (0-5 scale), finding the following results: The global assessment of the first stage reached a value of 3.89 whereas the second stage was best assessed (4.13). It was found that the lower assessment of the first stage was due to the evaluation module, which had a mark of 3.65. In conclusion, the participants valued positively this formative action, because of it improves the whole educational work as lecturers. However, through the opinion inquires it has been noted different coordination and content errors that will be corrected in the next edition.
