Abstract:
The subject of Introduction to Economics deals with the study of the key problems in economics; microeconomics (supply and demand, with special emphasis on the company); and macroeconomics (focused on explaining how the economic system works as a whole, the macro magnitudes, what are the main objectives and instruments of economic policy).
The study of this subject may not be of interest to students enrolled in legal degrees, such as Law Degree, due to the abstract component that generally surrounds the topics of Economics. For this reason, it is relevant to know the preferences for the study of the topics of this subject of those students whose profile is closer to the legal sciences. For example, we can ask ourselves if these students pay more attention to topics related to microeconomics or macroeconomics. Consequently, the aim of this communication is to show the results of implementing a blog related to current economic news in the subject of Introduction to Economics, in the first year of the Law Degree at the University of Almeria. The use of this tool is not only intended to attract the students' interest in this subject, but also to prove its usefulness to improve the understanding of certain economic concepts. In addition, from this experience in this first course of economics and the questionnaire used for its validation by the teaching staff, it is possible to detect the level of preference of the topics studied by the students. These results can be of great use in guiding the teacher and reinforcing with other innovative methodologies those subjects that are less attractive to the students, which can ultimately lead to better academic results. This experience has the advantage of being transferable to any other subject of an economic nature in university studies.
