Abstract:
Through the subject of Language and Critical Thinking we form people with a sense of transcendence and called to transform the reality with a clear vision to the Common Good, always in a search of the Truth. We look for to forming people that take posture and responsibility of it in a deep sense: that the students answer by their ideas and by their acts, being congruent, consistent and pertinent. With this approach we look for the contribution to the generation of a society with a real dialogue, not only with tolerate between each other; and also a society that knows the own history to understand the own identity from it.

To attain the objective of our subject’s approach, it is indispensable the use of the language as a vehicle of the thought expression. It’s possible to write to develop the own thought, but also to examine in a critical way the thought of others. But still further, it’s possible to write to transform and generate knowledge unifying the sense of the personal goal and the professional one.
As we can see, the integration between the language and the critical thinking adds to a humanist focus which its own purpose consists in promoting the human person and the transcendence, to enable in the decisions taking basing in the hierarchy of accepted values, to exercise the freedom in a responsible way, as well to expand the oneself student vision, of the others and the surrounding.
In the new curriculum that will go in next August 2013, we will articulate as only one focus the Critical Thinking and the Humanist Up-bringing to answer in an academic way to the mission of our University: “Create thought currents and form leaders that transform the society” and ensure from the curriculum the development of the logical, critical and creative thinking with a humanist and transcendental felt.

The profits that discern from the only one focus have two premises: to) the integral up-bringing of the student, with an interdisciplinary academic vision from the Arts and Humanities Department, b) to profit the personal and academic maturity of the student through a sequence and distribution of the signatures of the Critical Thinking and Humanist Up-bringing focus, so the student can see the training in a logical and significant way.
This curriculum integration will be implemented in all the modalities: scholastic, semi scholastic and on-line one; in all the cases respecting the characteristics and needs of each one, as well taking in account the academic and formative impacts of it. Through the multimodal ways, the students will have the opportunity to exercise the critical thinking through the visual, oral and written structures supported in congruent contents and methodology with the humanist up-bringing. The program influences in the students’ capacity for the solution of problems and the decisions taking with criteria and values, in a strategic, dialogue and critical way for the responsible exercise of the freedom.
To support the Critical Thinking and Humanist Up-bringing Focus, from the Thinking area, we can stand out the creation of a Writing Center which prospective covers research incubation, the propulsion of the critical thinking development in an inter and trans disciplinary way, boost a community of training, thinking and written culture; the leadership in consulting and qualification, the links with the society and academic entities, as well as the generation of a creation and cultural promotion space.
