Abstract:
With digitalization taking an increasingly important role in today’s economy, the complexity of technologies used has risen over the last few years with the overall goal of catering to the needs of today’s businesses. A profound understanding is crucial and indispensable to effectively use these technologies in a business context. To facilitate this understanding and significantly boost the learning success of students, a comprehensive multimodal didactic concept is necessary. Therefore, this paper proposes a framework for an interactive lecture to impart and teach hot topics in business informatics. To ensure a certain level of instructional quality, the didactic methods used within the class were assessed through a classroom observation conducted by two supervisors based on a standardized evaluation framework. The concept includes the following didactic approaches: (1) collaborative learning, (2) direct instructions, (3) experiential learning, and (4) creativity techniques. Combining these four techniques allows for raising the level of interactivity during the lecture and helps students learn faster and more effectively. Especially integrating gamification aspects within the experiential learning approach seems to increase motivation and enhance retention throughout the course. While this concept could be applied to several emerging trends in digitalization, this paper focuses on the application and evaluation of the framework on the topic of blockchain.
