Abstract:
Spanish Higher Schools of Art and Design must ensure that all their graduates achieve the communicative competence in a foreign language as established in “Royal Decree of minimum Content” and the Study Programs of each school.

The present situation shows that in no Higher School of Art and Design in Spain the minimum contents to guarantee this competence are taught.

This research work is aimed to prove the feasibility of a teaching experience that is taking place in Orihuela Higher School of Art and Design. This experience, or project, was designed to solve the problem and to be an example for other Schools in Spain.

The idea is to facilitate the specific English language competence of each specialty from an inclusive perspective. Subjects in English are taught to all students, without discrimination by groups. The approach is inspired by EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) and the methodology is based on the progressive introduction of the language and adaptation to previous knowledge. The challenge is for all students to graduate being able to defend their projects also in English.
