Abstract:
The structural change that has taken place in university teaching in the European Higher Education Area has produced a change in teaching methods, refocusing goals toward the acquisition of cognitive, procedural and attitudinal competencies relevant to the subject under study, and the objective evaluation of the process. The evaluation procedure has been reconsidered, studied and improved; new strategies, techniques and tools must be designed and new elements introduced, enabling the evaluation of competency acquisition to be integrated into the educational experience, in the form of learning-oriented evaluation.

This paper specifically describes the development of a complete system for such a learning-oriented evaluation applied to a basic course in Probability Calculation taught as part of a Bachelor’s degree in statistics at the University of Granada (Spain). The methodology, techniques and instruments developed may be used in other, similar courses in statistics requiring the same competencies and awarded a similar number of credits in the European Credit Transfer System.

To facilitate future improvement to this system, we have designed guidelines and instruments for internal and external assessment of the evaluation approach proposed.
