Abstract:
Many different rural areas in Europe, and particularly its tradition and local culture are in serious danger. A big social and cultural alienation by different factors such as the rural population drift, the arrival of foreign population to work in activities related to the primary sector, or the massive exodus of the local population in search of better living conditions in urban areas. Because of those reasons, it is necessary to take steps to promote collaboration and participation in favor of tradition and culture from of the local places that has been transmitted generation after generation.
The progressive aging of the local population and the lack of awareness of rural tradition for people who come to fill vacancies in these communities, establish ourselves in a critical situation: all the ancestral knowledge disappear if the transmission fails.
One of the possibilities to mitigate the loss of this immaterial cultural heritage is the development of a formative program created around the elderly people and their places, focusing to disseminate the local culture to all those people interested in them. This collective and ancestral underused talent, offers a unique and limited opportunity to contribute with their experience and knowledge in favor of the new generations, many times distant and rooted out from their origins and their ancestors, and even from their own history and reality. Keywords:
