Abstract:
The author of this communication is a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction at the Polytechnic School of Cuenca, teaching the subject "Building IV", formerly known as "Construction Technology", mandatory subject, found within the syllabus of the new Bachelor Degree in Building Engineering , formerly named Technical Architecture.

The name of the qualification has always been a matter of much debate, both academically and professionally. There are several reasons to change the name of an academic degree. Currently the need for convergence and standardization within the European Higher Education Area, has led to a change in many of them, as has happened with Building Engineering, formerly Technical Architecture, inherited from older denominations as Quantity Surveyor.

There is a clear need for discussion on this topical issue. For this reason, we analyze from different perspectives the consequences associated with the change of denomination to Bachelor Degree in Building Engineering and what is the current legal situation. We'll see how the different connotations that each name raises, inevitably lead to error outside and inside the university community and finally analyze if all this affects the current syllabus.
