Abstract:
Mexican farmers in the agriculture industry face a significant challenge due to the shortage of skilled labor. Factors contributing to this shortage include young people’s low interest in pursuing a career in this sector. This has a significant impact on the industry's productivity. This research aims to analyze the needs of the Mexican agriculture industry, examine the current state of digital transformation and modernization in the agro-industrial sector, and propose updates to related education programs' curricula.
For our study, we will employ a quantitative approach and utilize a questionnaire to gather insights into farmers’ training and development needs in relation to Industry 4.0. The study was carried out mainly in the first semester of 2023. The data collected will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, and the responses will be grouped and classified to determine training needs.
Taking a multidisciplinary approach to assess the training needs of Mexican farmers in Industry 4.0 can support the development of updated curriculums for university programs. This approach can also lead to new profiles that enhance farmers' knowledge of the agriculture industry while providing skills in project management, business, digital transformation, and innovation methodologies.
The findings of this study can assist in developing updated curriculums that will support the professional training of future farmers. This training will help to improve productivity in the Mexican agriculture industry with an agrotechnology mindset and contribute to the national and international value and supply chain.
