Abstract:
The 4th industrial revolution, known as Industry 4.0 (I4.0), will promise to increase the flexibility in manufacturing, mass customization, better quality and improved productivity in all industrial sectors. EU and Asian countries are promoting this industrial transformation through new industrial policies and funding in research and infrastructures. However, the I4.0 adoption also includes challenges in education and training. Current and future managers and workers need to have the knowledge, skills and competences demanded by the I4.0. This involves to update the curricula of Vocational Education Training (VET) and in Higher Education (HE) degrees. In this regard, the European Project MAKING 4.0 aims specifically to bring this 4th industrial revolution to the specific sector of wood and furniture industry in Malaysia – one of the major contributors to the Malaysian economy-, through the development of an innovative curriculum to modernize the current HE offer in this field. In this contribution we present the work is being carried out in the framework of the MAKING 4.0 project, with a European-Malaysian collaborative consortium, which is working to perform, from the design of the joint curriculum and training contents of the master degree, to the official accreditation by the Malaysian Qualification Agency.
