CHILDREN WITH "AIDS" AND SCHOOL LIFE: POSSIBILITIES AND REALITIES

In 1983 it was diagnosed the first case of AIDS in children, according to the Ministry of Health (Brazil) , and the reported cases reveal that over 80% of cases of infected children is attributed to vertical transmission - transmission of HIV from mother to baby during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding. Currently, we have the first generation of children and young adolescents from birth, HIV / AIDS and all the repercussions that this epidemic brings to family life and society as constantly being in the hospital, the need administer medications, the clinical and laboratory examinations, among others.
The Statute of the Child and Adolescent ensures that no child or adolescent shall be subject to any form of negligence, discrimination, exploitation, violence, cruelty and oppression, and any attempt by act or omission of their fundamental rights will be punished according to the law, Article 5. Currently there is still a lot of prejudice and discrimination by society with the holders of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, which include infected children.
In our society, a child with HIV is not just a child with a chronic illness for which there is still no established cure, he is a child-aid├ętica, stigmatized, segregated and excluded from many opportunities: Opportunities to belong to the school, socialization space of coexistence, where prejudice generated by ignorance is still perceived as a threat. Many of the infected children know their diagnosis, according War and Seidl (2009) researches have pointed out the advantages of disclosure of diagnosis to children and adolescents with HIV / AIDS, but the caregivers / family members have postponed this decision regardless of the recommendations of the health teams .
Childhood is a time of extreme importance in the formation of the human being. During this period the child needs favorable conditions for its growth and development. The school life enables your child psychic and cognitive development beyond the contact with other children, establishing a social interaction and makes it become a normal person in society.
This paper aims to initially raise diagnostic data about the school life of children infected by HIV, where they are vulnerable to several types of discrimination and prejudice. The intention of these data have a diagnosis in Brazil and start a discussion about the importance of education and school experience in the lives of children with "AIDS", who need specialized attention.
Brazil has public policies that ensure this right for children and adolescents unable to attend school in a conventional way, this educational assistance is accomplished through classes hospital where specialized professionals working for children and adolescents have access to education.
