Abstract:
Teaching and learning practical subjects such as Statistics involves the need to solve, in the most efficient possible way, problems that involve a large number of data. In this case, it is essential to promote learning through the use of statistical packages. This paper shows how to facilitate the understanding and use by the student of the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program, generating new curricular materials. Firstly, we proceeded to develop manuals and evaluation and/or self-assessment templates. We also considered that the first session of SPSS is of great importance so that the rest of the practices could be developed more easily, simply following the elaborated manuals. Therefore, we proposed the production of a subtitled video for the first session, which serves as an introduction to the program and allows those student with special needs to follow it easily and see it as many times as necessary. A questionnaire about students' attitude toward the multimedia materials and teachings resources for statistics learning was then held. Based on these results we analyse the benefits and drawbacks of the proposed learning methodology.
