Abstract:
A common problem in subjects taught in the Faculty of Social Sciences with a mathematical formulation, such as “Statistics” and “Financial Mathematics”, is the difficulty to motivate students and maintain the interest. We have developed e-learning modules using the scientific text editor LaTeX included in ILIAS, the notes platform available in the virtual campus of the University of Jaén. With the use of this option, modules show certain quality as scientific texts. The developed learning modulus offers students a comprehensive overview of the concepts and notions using a mathematical formulation. It also provides students with notes of the topics, list of problems and the solutions for checking the results, activities and guidelines for them, tables and summaries, flash presentations, questionnaires, etc. Students can use the learning modulus as many times as they need it along the course. The pedagogical aims of this tool are: to stimulate the interest, reinforce the learning, promote understanding and students’ active and autonomous learning. Students were surveyed to discuss the effectiveness of this methodology.
