Abstract:
Among all modern innovations, robotics is one of the most developing. One of the most important steps in the possibility of widespread use of robots in everyday life is the emergence of new scenarios of human interaction with the robot.
“By 2020 there will be a robot in every house”, said Bill Gates. In fact, recently the world is facing a huge market and development activity of so called social robots, that are not industrial and heavy equipment robots: some studies estimate such growth at about 20% in 10 years. Therefore, it is crucial, for academics, to provide new generations a good background that will help them designing and creating the social robots of the future.
The course "Robots and Artificial Intelligence" has been in existence for more than 10 years situated in Moscow Lyceum 1557. The pupils of grades 5-7, which goes from 8 up to 13 years old, are engaged in the development of robots based on LEGO platform, they get acquainted with the theory of robot control, program complex device actions, design mechanical parts, and search for optimal solutions in the creation of robotic devices. The last two years the course was enriched with the participation of a professional industrial designer involved in robots production process. Thanks to this, it became possible to focus not only on the technical aspect, but also to offer new scenarios of human-robot interaction and design small robots taking into account their possible use.
The developers of the course decided to share their work experience and methodology that allows show and learn stages of technical modeling and design during education process. Keywords:
