Abstract:
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, online school sessions have become a norm. In 2022, the Ministry of Education implemented an online school as a pilot program in Guayaquil, Ecuador. This initiative poses diverse connectivity and pedagogical challenges that demand creativity in teaching-learning. Teaching English lexis is essential to develop EFL skills. Thus, this qualitative action research study describes the steps taken to enhance the lexis of students attending a distance learning school. The data collection instruments were the activities of the platform and the content given by the Ministry of Education enriched by the inclusion of games and exercises that provide the necessary context for acquiring EFL vocabulary. Moreover, teacher observations provided insights into motivating students to increase their vocabulary. Although the teaching process faced constraints, positive results encouraged the researcher to pursue enriching students’ lexis. The outcomes of the present study are relevant to EFL teachers.
