Abstract:
This article reports the experiment held in the Physics course at Fluminense Federal University in which blogs were used as blackboards and youtube as a book in progress in a pilot upward bound programme of physics and a bit of math for secondary school adolescent students who intend to graduate as physics teachers. This programme was named “I know more physics”, and attends mostly underprivileged adolescents whose parents are poor or have not had a college education.
Due to the large demand for physics teachers in Brazil, nearly all physics graduates are guaranteed a teaching position. Because of this deficiency in the number of teachers, there are not enough physics teachers in secondary schools to improve scientific literacy. Without enough scientific literacy, a large number of physics freshmen are not able to follow the subjects of the courses they have to take; as a result, they usually drop out before graduation. The iniciative aimed, therefor, to enhance learning and the undergraduate expericence.
Thirty-two students were accompanied in virtual and non-virtual activities through tutoring in blogs and mobile phones. The reports on the experience and the analysis of the results comprise this article.
