Abstract:
This paper will briefly introduce poetic inquiry and the idea of Poem-like or ‘poemish’ (Lahman, Richard and Teman, 2019) representation of data. This approach combines the rigour of research with features of poetic tradition which may result in lyrical masterpieces or an output that is ‘good enough poetry to meet one’s research goals’ (Faulkner, 2017, p.155).

Ten minutes of this session will comprise a micro-workshop which will invite attendees to produce their own poemish outputs. Using a piece of pre-existing text (bring your own or use the samples provided) attendees will be guided through the process of creating a transcription or erasure poem (Faulkner, 2017). This will introduce participants to a new way of thinking about and interacting with qualitative data or pre-existing texts. Participants will be encouraged look for other found texts to explore in this way and to share their resulting poemish outputs throughout the conference.
