Abstract:
Being an online adjunct faculty in a gig economy with fewer tenured opportunities is not easy. Working in a gig economy means that online faculty may teach for multiple universities and navigate through multiple sets of teaching requirements. As online faculty managers, it is essential that we provide solid foundations that models the requirements at our specific institutions. Likewise, frequent check-ins with our faculty and online faculty lounges provide quick resources so that our faculty are successful.

Through this presentation, faculty managers will learn:
1. building a sense of belonging through frequent check-ins.
2. creating exemplars to streamline the teaching, learning, and assessment process.
3. supporting online faculty to support student persistence.

There is a need to support our online adjunct faculty who teach many of our courses. Our online adjunct faculty need to be heard and have a place to provide support for each other. How often do you check-in with faculty? What supports do you provide? How do you build team belonging? How are your online adjunct faculty able to support to the broader academic community? The time together will start a dialogue around the topic of being an online adjunct faculty in a reality where many instructor positions are being filled in the non-tenure gig economy.
