Abstract:
In this paper, we present a project on the use of movies in business management education. An educational project developed at the University of Vigo, aimed at analysing and discussing the different aspects of the entrepreneurial activity through movie viewing. At the same time, it aims for a pleasant introduction of the topic to study and, above all, to give rise to debate, thus improving both the revision and anchoring the concepts of each area. Teaching Business and Economics can be challenging, especially in early courses, where students hardly have any experience and often find it difficult to visualize abstract concepts such as strategy, vision, etc. In addition, the new generations starting their studies in Business Administration and Management are technological natives, what also becomes a challenge when it comes to catching their attention. The cinema provides multiple sequences that enable teachers to illustrate economic concepts on a simple way, thus making them more real for the students, while making learning more attractive. Real cases, situations and behaviours that students cannot personally experience are presented in the movies. Students can visualise abstract ideas, theories or emotions, which are often difficult to explain through text. Movies are an attractive way to enhance the learning experience of first-year students. We not only show our experience, but also comment on the final results, and provide seven movies that teachers could use in business management education.
