Abstract:
At a global level, the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the emotional health of the population, at the university educational level, students are overwhelmed by everything experienced during the health emergency. From the pandemic, we live a new normality, which affects the teaching-learning processes that have now been forced to be taught virtually. This situation has been generating negative attitudes and behaviors in the emotional well-being and academic performance of the student. Students face many obstacles, including overload of academic assignments, the problem of connectivity, and coping with the widespread uncertainty caused by the pandemic. Another aspect to highlight is a characteristic of the university student in our country, mainly those who study at a private university, who generally study and work at the same time, this increases their activity load and affects it emotionally. The nursing student, due to the nature of their professional training, must carry out a variety of training activities, including pre-professional practices that start from the second year of studies and puts them in front of real situations dealing with the health problems of our country. Academic burnout is a condition that affects university students, characterized by the feeling of not being able to give more of themselves, the presence of a negative attitude, lack of interest in transcendence and the ability to do their studies. Previous studies suggest that the prevalence of academic burnout is increasingly high in our country and region, which makes it relevant to continue investigating this problem that affects the university student population. In this framework, the objective of this study was to determine academic burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic, in nursing students from a private university in Lima. The focus of this research was quantitative and its design descriptive transversal. 266 nursing students distributed in the 10 academic semesters were counted. The data collection instrument was the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey (MBI-SS), made up of 15 items, which measured the level of burnout in students. Regarding the findings, in academic burnout the mild level predominated with 75.9% (n = 202), followed by the moderate level with 19.2% (n = 51), it did not present with 3.4% (n = 9) and deep by 1.5% (n = 4). According to the dimensions, in behavioral indicators, the mild level predominated with 68% (n = 181) and in attitudinal indicators the mild level in 48.1% (n = 128). These results are important scientific evidence that allows us to know how the emotional health of the students is. Those responsible for the academic area of the nursing program must work to generate healthy academic spaces, emphasizing the prevention of psychosocial problems, and strengthen student wellness programs aimed at mental health care. Keywords:
