Abstract:
Demand for knowledge is increasing and becoming necessary and fundamental in a Global Society. In this scenario, digital technologies represent a strategy for innovation and expansion of teaching and learning process. Besides, it can also act as an instrument of knowledge and dissemination of information, providing expansion of job opportunities and lifelong learning. Education for the XXI Century is one of the engines of development, but it requires renewal of teaching methods in order to train people to learn and to be able to manage their own jobs. In this context, the management of new technologies in higher education institutions is characterized as an essential element in modernization, expansion and innovation of education systems. From this perspective, this article - based on the literature review of educational technology applied to higher education institutions - aims to analyze the impact of applying new technologies in these institutions. Besides, considering the results of a survey applied at a Higher Federal Institution called CEFET/RJ located at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, the author describes the critical success factors faced by this institution while applying to use new technologies resources in the teaching and learning process. As a research result, the author shows the importance of educational planning aligned with information technology as a tool for targeting strategic alignment in higher education institutions in the context of a technology-based education system.
